A well cared for and properly maintained lift can continue to function well for decades.

In addition Regulation 9 of The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) states “that all lifts provided for use in work activities are thoroughly examined by a competent person at regular intervals. This applies to lifts and hoists used to lift people or loads.”

As with any lift there is a legal responsibility to ensure the lift is safe to use and that it is thoroughly examined. These responsibilities primarily involve appointing a competent person or company to fulfil the following obligations:

  • Maintain the lift so that it is safe to use
  • Ensure that the lift is examined at regular intervals (every 3, 6 or 12 months)
  • Act promptly to remedy any defects
  • Ensure that all documentation complies with the Regulations

Note: When first installed, new lifts do not require any initial thorough examination as long as they have been manufactured and installed in accordance with the Lifts Regulations 1997 and have a current declaration of conformity.
